The Echoed Dawn are a human civilization inhabiting Echolight, a vault kingdom located within the Elderglade Mountains. They descend from a group of humans who were isolated from the wider world for over 1,500 years, during which time they settled in the magical ruins of an ancient society known only as the Whispered Ones. Their name refers to the echoes of that earlier civilization that permeate their home.

Echolight is a sprawling subterranean complex of stone corridors, towering spires, and deep caverns, illuminated by luminescent fungi that have colonized the ruins. The ruins themselves combine arcane technology and magical construction in ways that remain poorly understood. The Whispered Ones reportedly harnessed magic at a fundamental level, but the circumstances of their disappearance are unknown, likely connected to the sealing of magic approximately 1,500 years ago.

The Echoed Dawn have adapted to their environment with considerable resourcefulness. They use the luminescent fungi for light and heat, and have repurposed ancient structures as homes, workshops, and communal spaces. Their governing body, the Dawnbringers, is a council composed of the most capable and knowledgeable among them. The Dawnbringers handle collective decision-making, conflict resolution, and the ongoing exploration of the ruins.

The Echoed Dawn’s primary concerns are survival, the study of the Whispered Ones’ legacy, and the growth of their society. The ruins present persistent dangers: unstable structures, undiscovered traps, and dormant magical artifacts. Their emergence has also drawn the attention of other Rolaran societies, whose reactions range from curiosity to hostility.

The Echoed Dawn have developed a syncretic culture blending their ancestral traditions with practices inspired by the ruins. They observe festivals honoring the Whispered Ones and maintain rituals tied to the spiritual dimensions of their home.
