The Aetheric Resonance Beacon (ARB) is a Tatharian long-range communication device developed in the Laboratorium of Tatharia Capitolina, where the Empire’s engineers work with the properties of Aetherite Crystals. It ranks among the Laboratorium’s most strategically important creations, allowing the Tatharian Empire to relay commands across vast distances faster than any messenger could travel.

Parent technology: Gemcore Technology Related species: Human

Construction

Each ARB is a towering structure whose core houses a large, specially treated Aetherite crystal. The crystal is held within a complex array of brass and steel forming the heart of a Gemcore Engine that hums with latent energy.

Function

Operation begins with a message, whether a directive from the Empire’s high command or an urgent warning from a distant outpost. A skilled operator, trained in the arcane science of Aetheric Resonance, transcribes the message into a unique resonance pattern and uses the Gemcore Engine to imbue the Aetherite crystal with that pattern, effectively programming the crystal with the message.

Once the crystal is charged, the ARB comes to life. Its machinery whirs into motion, amplifying the crystal’s resonance and projecting it into the sky. The air around the beacon crackles with energy as the message is sent, traveling across the Tatharian Empire.

Miles away, a paired ARB stands sentinel. Its own Aetherite crystal, attuned to the same resonance, picks up the incoming message, and the beacon’s machinery decodes the resonance, translating it back into the original message.

Control and Secrecy

The ARB is a closely guarded secret of the Tatharian Empire, its existence known only to a select few. The Empire’s control over the production of Gemcore Engines and its proprietary method of treating Aetherite crystals ensures that it alone can utilize this technology. However, as Aetherite becomes more common, the Empire must remain vigilant, for the day may come when others discover the secrets of the Aetheric Resonance Beacon.
