The Starpetal is a legendary Fey Nullship with a rich histo…
Once upon a time, in the realm of Tatharia, there existed an ancient and powerful spelljamming vessel known as the Starpetal. The ship was said to be imbued with magic beyond comprehension, and it was said that she preferred pilots who had good dreams. The Starpetal was not just any ordinary vessel, for without the Dream Orb in place, she was as dormant as a rock, unable to move or use any of her defenses.
The Starpetal was an enigma, an elusive and mysterious ship whose Consciousness could only be accessed through the Dream Orb. When the Orb was in place, the ship would awaken, her weapons and defenses ready for any battle that lay ahead. The central tree of the Starpetal would transform into an elevator big enough to carry one medium creature at a time, and if a pilot slept in the bed of the Throne Tree, they would become one with the ship.
The process of Dreaming was a sacred ritual that allowed any creature with an INT of 4 or higher to control the Starpetal as if they were one creature. While Dreaming, the Pilot had the power to speak to anyone on the ship from a localized whisper to a booming announcement heard up to 300 feet away from the ship. The Pilot also had true sight, giving them the ability to detect creatures and contents within 120 feet of the Starpetal.
The Eladrin of Moredge , a group of powerful magic wielders, created the Starpetal using a ritual that bound a willing Treant to the spelljamming vessel. The Treant’s consciousness merged with the Starpetal, giving her the power to move through the cosmos with unmatched grace and power.
Over the centuries, the Starpetal became a legend, her name evoking awe and wonder throughout Tatharia. She was said to have been present at some of the most important battles in Tatharian history, turning the tide of many wars in favor of the Empire. Her Eldritch Cannons were feared by all who stood in her path, and her defenses were impenetrable.
Some even claimed that the Starpetal had a mind of her own, that she could think and feel like any living creature. They said that the ship had a will of her own, and that she would only respond to those she deemed worthy.
The Starpetal was a true marvel of Tatharian engineering, a vessel unlike any other in the cosmos. And though she may have been anchored in place without the Dream Orb, when the Orb was in place and a worthy Pilot was at the helm, the Starpetal was an unstoppable force, a ship that could take on any challenge and come out victorious.

The pilot asleep in the Captain Quarters may select a spell from the list below. It will use the pilot’s spellcasting ability. Each spell may be cast one time each day.
-
Mending - when cast this way, roll a level 7 Cure Wounds spell for the ship. Special. Doesn’t affect creatures aboard the ship.
-
Fly - affects the ship, not creatures on board. Cast this way it lasts for 8 hours.
-
Mage Armor - affects either the ship or up to 8 willing creatures aboard the ship.
-
Haste - on either the ship or up to 8 willing creatures.
Starpetal can move up to her speed (the pilot’s INT modifier multiplied by 5) feet regardless of weather or the sails. As part of this move, it can use its naval ram.
Naval Ram
AC: 20
HP: 100 (damage threshold 10) Starpetal has advantage on all saving throws relating to crashing when it crashes into a creature or an object. Any damage she takes from the crash is applied to the naval ram rather than to the ship. These benefits don’t apply if another vessel crashes into Starpetal.
Actions
On its turn, Starpetal can take 3 actions, choosing from the options below. It can take only 2 actions if it has fewer than twenty crew and only 1 action if it has fewer than ten. It can’t take these actions if no one is asleep in the Captain’s Quarters with the Dream Orb in place.
Ballistae

These mysterious cannons appear only when used, and seem to be an extension of Starpetal.
In addition to the target, creatures and objects within a 10-foot sphere must succeed on a DC 12 Dexterity saving throw or take 10 (3d6) 3d6 lightning damage
Starpetal is a Fey Nullship. She prefers pilots who have good dreams. Without the Dream Orb in place, she sleeps and her consciousness cannot be reached. During this time, she is anchored in place, unmoveable, and unable to use any defenses (crew can still operate the Ballistae).
When the Orb is in place, the ship remains anchored but its weapons, including the Eldritch Cannons, are usable by the crew. The central tree becomes an elevator big enough for 1 medium creature at a time. If a Pilot sleeps in the bed of the Throne Tree, they become indescribably linked to the ship, as if one creature instead of two. This process is called Dreaming, and any creature with an INT of 4 or higher can sleep in the bed and control Starpetal. The DM decides which skills apply in each scenario.
While Dreaming, the Pilot can speak freely to anyone anywhere on the ship, from a localized whisper to a booming announcement heard up to 300 feet away from the ship. The Pilot has true sight 120 feet surrounding the ship and is aware of the creatures and contents of Starpetal.
