The Dunes of Ishtar are a wide belt of shifting dunes that forms the border of the Vast Desert proper. They lie east of Al-Zaluma, beyond the badlands that lead east into the desert. The border is broad: between the badlands and the dunes runs a stretch of desertified land that lies outside the Vast Desert itself.
The dunes shift with the wind. Desert creatures such as giant scorpions and sand serpents live among them. Some say that deep within the dunes are ancient ruins that hold the secrets of a lost civilization.
The Wailing Oasis
The Wailing Oasis is a small, lush patch of green in the desertified land outside the Vast Desert proper, on the border between the desert and the badlands. The Dunes of Ishtar lie beyond it. Its water is said to have magical properties, and pilgrims come from far and wide to drink from it. The oasis is also home to dangerous water serpents and other deadly creatures.
