These heavenly spirits, most of them once criminals (all of them previously mortals), are recorded to have been alive during the early days of the Ancient Jiao empires. While stories vary, as well as the manner of worship, these minor deities collectively are thought to do battle against the enemies of Heaven.
The deities below are presented as they are in the Mythic Land of Jiao , as male ancestors. Historically, the Ancient Jiao were not nearly as patriarchal as modern Jiao society and it is likely that some of these deities are feminine in aspect or were female in life. Nearly all 108 of the Stars of Fate have surnames shared by current kings and nobles; whether current rulers have chosen those names to symbolically represent their rule or to claim actual heritage depends on each case and the totality of circumstances. Generally, however, the surnames in this list represent the largest and most well-known noble families in the land.
Many of these deities aren’t worshipped in other regions and the few that are have different names and slightly different myths associated with them.
