The Mythekin are a race of twelve-foot-tall hill giants from the mountainous regions around Mount Origin. They have an alleged connection to the Stars of Power and to the Elder God known as the Mythekah.
The name Mythekin derives from the archaic Teang’quess root mythek, meaning “chaos made orderly”: that is, magic itself in its most fundamental sense. The literal translation of Mythekin is therefore something close to the people of chaos made orderly, or, in less reverent contemporary usage, the magic-people. The same root underlies the names of the Mythekah, the Mythek Vortex, the Mythek Massacre, and a small number of other terms scattered through Rolaran history. All of them belong to a single etymological cluster whose unifying concept is the giant cosmological principle of mythek, the ordering of underlying chaos into coherent and useful form. See Ordering of Chaos for the full treatment.
In Videha, legends and ancient depictions show mythic heroes facing gargantuan monstrosities of flesh and crystal. Due to their tie to Vishravas, the Videhan analog to the Mythekah, it is thought that the स्फटिकानाम् दिग्गजाः (the crystalline direction-guardians) of Videhan record were an ancient memory of the Mythekin.
