(a.k.a. 雞蛇妖 - Jī shé yāo)

This villain wreaks havoc on Gecko Village (咯咯村), a normally peaceful hamlet that lies between Sowa and Ganju Shi.

Physical Description

Special abilities

雞蛇妖 is capable of deadly martial arts techniques that cause bodily trauma indistinguishable from being poisoned. This technique is similar to the Poison Hand style of the Wang Clan, but includes beak strikes.

He can also magically transform his victims into eggs, leaving them indefinitely indisposed. While in this egg form they are at risk of being cracked or smashed.

The Reign at Gecko Village

Ji She Yao settled in above Gecko Village like a petty tyrant, murdering or breaking the adult men and keeping the old headman alive just long enough to threaten his own neighbors on the demon’s behalf. He demanded young women from the village as “brides,” and over the course of his occupation worked through them with an unhurried cruelty that was, in its own way, stranger than simple appetite. Some of his captives he turned into enormous eggs and stored away indefinitely; others appear to have walked under some enchantment or charm; and a few of the older women (long past the age he was supposed to want) seemed, by the time help arrived, to have grown genuinely fond of him.

The clearest clue to what Ji She Yao actually was came from his own mouth during his fight with the Black Team. Pressed and wounded, he let slip that he was only six years old. Whatever hatched him had done so recently, and all his casual lordliness (the brides, the coins, the egg-locked pantry of victims) was the work of a creature whose whole life had fit inside a span shorter than the oldest of his prisoners had been married.

He fought with his Treasure Defeating Golden Coins and his transformative beak-strike, and was dangerous enough that the Black Team could only restrain him, not finish him. The killing blow was never struck. Dancing Phoenix, King of Sowa, arrived with the Ruler of Admonition and forced Ji She Yao to undo his egg-curses one by one. The demon was then marched back down into the village at the king’s side to personally restore the headman’s daughter. What became of him after that deliverance is a question the villagers seem, pointedly, not to want asked.
