Viswamitra Talavalakar (a.k.a. Kano the Peaceful Teacher)
Kano, born Viswamitra Talavalakar, is considered the founder and patron deity of a religious philosophy known as the Way of Kano.
As a teacher of compassion and nobility, Kano exemplifies a lawful neutral devotion to his Path, expressed through positive traits such as charity, kindness, mindfulness, and bliss. His methods of living are called the Path of Eight Virtues and they detail his journey from young prince to wise master of the universe.
Though not a member of the Celestial Administration, he is often sought for advice by the various high-ranking ministers. When the might and glory of Heaven falters, even the Jade God seeks Kano’s advice.
Suppressed Traditions
A minority of heterodox practitioners, associated with the tradition called the Krodhamarga, hold that Kano’s canonical “years of wandering” before his enlightenment were not a period of peaceful contemplation but a direct confrontation with death, and that the wrathful face they venerate as the Mukhavarna is Kano in a form his orthodox followers refuse to recognize. The mainstream Way of Kano neither confirms nor refutes this reading. Kano himself, on the few occasions the question was reportedly put to him, is said to have smiled and declined to answer.
