The Chokurri were a group of forest-dwelling peoples centered in the Elmwood of central Ofica, composed primarily of Wood Elf communities in and around the city of Myth Chokurri. The term “Chokurri” applied to any creature native to the area, not solely to elves: one might equally speak of a Chokurri Hound or a Chokurri Steed. The elven population formed the cultural and political core, led by an Archdruidess and her circle of druids, whose central obligation was the worship and protection of the Ancient Wood.
The Death of the Ancient Wood
In 1526 PE (403 TC), the Ancient Wood was killed by a curse cast by Tah’Caluss Yorn, acting as an agent of the Raven Queen. The death of their presiding deity represents the most significant rupture in Chokurri history since the founding of Myth Chokurri. The New Wood, born at the moment of the Ancient Wood’s death in the Hidden Gardens, has assumed the Ancient Wood’s sacred portfolio and its obligations to the Chokurri people, but the transition has not been without strain. The Archdruidess and her circle now serve the New Wood, though a young deity of four years carries different authority than one of immeasurable age.
The ancient alliance between the Chokurri Elves and the Fourth Fairy Kingdom, enshrined in the Oath of the Greenlord sworn by Oberon, remains nominally in force, as the New Wood regards it as binding.
