The Remnari Enclave stands as a testament to the resilience and unity of a people born from the ashes of a lost world.

A shattered remnant of hope for the orphaned Remnari people, the Enclave once thrived as a sanctuary suspended in Rolaraspace. It stood as a beacon of unity, culture, and survival. Powered by a core that resembled a Mythallar in output, though not a true one, and controlled by a bio-locked, modified Spelljammer Helm, the Enclave served as a cultural and organizational hub for the Remnari scattered across the Astral Sea. In 1531 PE, it was decimated by a deadly assault from a small, elite unit of Astral Elves of the Solanari Dominion. Though both sides perished in the confrontation, the Enclave remains a symbol of resilience and loss for the surviving Remnari. The sole known survivor, Ami “Astralis” Oresinger, has since vowed to reclaim the Enclave’s legacy.

Structure

The Enclave was led by a group of four Exemplars, representatives chosen based on merit and significant contributions to the Enclave. These Exemplars upheld the balance between preserving tradition and fostering progress. Supporting them, specialized committees managed education, defense, and cultural activities. The role of the Enclave’s Spelljammer, though lacking formal leadership duties, held a prestigious position akin to a ship’s captain, given their expertise in both magic and astral navigation. After the tragedy, Ami claimed authority over the remnants of the Enclave and its scattered survivors.

Culture

Cultural Foundations

Survival, self-discovery, and reverence for names and identity defined the cultural heart of the Remnari. As refugees from a lost world, the Remnari preserved their fragmented history through sacred naming traditions and ancient rituals. Names were more than mere identifiers; they represented an individual’s essence across past, present, and future.

Naming Traditions

Each Remnari name comprises three elements that reflect both personal and communal identity:

Given Name. Chosen by parents or guardians to embody the qualities they hope the child will manifest (for example Lyr for ‘light’ or Toren for ‘strength’).

Lineage Name. Passed through generations, this name ties an individual to their family’s history and legacy (for example Stellara, Voidweaver).

Astral Epithet. Selected upon reaching adulthood, this name symbolizes one’s unique journey and aspirations within the Astral Sea (for example Skyseeker, Starborn).

Rituals and Ceremonies

Naming holds profound spiritual significance among the Remnari and is central to their cultural rites. The ‘Rite of Echoing,’ conducted under the astral skies, celebrates the bestowal of a new name and affirms the individual’s place within the cosmic tapestry. Community members gather to witness and honor this pivotal moment, while the Astral Epithet is revealed in a separate rite upon reaching maturity.

Cultural Practices

The Remnari crafted arcane artifacts and documented their astral journeys while remaining open to new experiences and knowledge. Strong bonds often formed among travelers who sought refuge within the Enclave’s halls. Before the tragedy, Ami, a Remnari who lived on the Ground of Rolara, had begun sharing knowledge with the Enclave, bridging the divide between his people in Rolaraspace and those settled on the Ground.

Public Agenda

The Enclave’s primary mission was the preservation of Remnari culture and the establishment of a permanent home. They aspired to one day settle on the Ground of Rolara, where they might escape the dangers of Rolaraspace. However, with the destruction of the Enclave, this dream has been deferred. Ami’s current agenda includes seeking justice against the Astral Elves of the Solanari Dominion and protecting what remains of his people’s legacy.

Assets

The Enclave’s Core. A power core that resembled a Mythallar in output, though not a true one, sustaining the fortress’s magical infrastructure. It stood dark for roughly a year after the massacre before being brought back online in 409 TC, its failed conduit fuses repaired with Aetherite Crystals substituted for the original Emberlyr.

Modified Spelljammer Helm. Bio-locked to the designated captain, the helm allowed for astral navigation and control of the Enclave’s systems. As of 409 TC, no Remnari has sat in it since the massacre.

The Stone of Endurance. The asteroid housing the Enclave (see Stone of Endurance) remains a strategic asset, though its defenses were compromised during the assault.

Arcane and Cultural Artifacts. A collection of enchanted relics, holographic records, and other cultural heirlooms, many of which were lost or damaged in the battle. Those that remain are locked behind the core’s magic, readable on-site through the fortress’s Terminal System by anyone holding the appropriate access.

Residential Blocks. Three blocks of apartments served the Enclave’s population, of which only the first was ever occupied. As of 409 TC, Block One is habitable and occupied again. Block Two is infested with rust monsters that entered during the year the fortress stood dark, and cannot be repaired until they are cleared. Block Three requires replacement components before it can be brought back.

Medical Wing. Restoring the Enclave’s medical facility requires components not obtainable in Rolaraspace. It remains offline as of 409 TC.

Detention Facility. Operable as of 409 TC, pending the hiring of staff.

History

Founding and Early Years

The Enclave was established by the first groups of Remnari to reunite in the Astral Sea. They discovered the asteroid, its origins unknown, and adapted it into a self-sustaining fortress. The modified Spelljammer Helm allowed them to traverse Rolaraspace in search of lost kin and potential refuge.

Golden Era

During its prime, the Enclave flourished as a center of learning, cultural preservation, and interstellar diplomacy. The council of elders maintained alliances with other astral factions while ensuring the safety and education of their people. At its height, the population reached over 400 Remnari.

The Tragedy of 1531 PE

The Enclave’s peace was shattered when a small strike force of Astral Elves from the Solanari Dominion attacked without warning. The exact reasons for this aggression remain unclear, but rumors suggest that the Solanari view the Remnari as monsters. The battle was fierce; neither side survived the confrontation. Ami, who arrived shortly after the massacre, discovered the scene of mutual annihilation. He found a crystal longsword, left by a fallen Remnari, still embedded in the last Astral Elf’s body: a grim testament to the final stand.

Aftermath and Current Era

For roughly a year after the massacre, the Enclave sat dark and sealed, its lower level cut off behind an adamantine door that had been sabotaged at some point during or after the attack. A wicked construct, later identified as a Cadaver Collector, wandered that lower section for most of that time, incorporating the remains of the dead into itself, contained there along with whatever survivors there had been.

In 409 TC the fortress was reoccupied for the first time since the massacre. Power was restored, standing water pumped out, a second mess hall located, and the Cadaver Collector destroyed in the cooling chambers. The cooling chambers were subsequently cleaned and life support verified, leaving the Enclave habitable end to end. Block One is occupied again. Blocks Two and Three remain closed, the former to its rust monsters and the latter for want of parts.

Legacy

The Remnari, though decimated, live on in the memories of their survivors and the cultural artifacts scattered across Rolaraspace. The Enclave is a reminder of the cost of survival in the astral currents and a symbol of hope for a future where the Remnari might finally find peace.
