The Temporal Nexus is the divine realm of Continuum, the current Chronomaster, and the seat from which the office of the Time Deity operates. It is a dimensional plane that exists outside the normal flow of time, where past, present, and future are not sequential but coexistent. The Nexus serves as both Continuum’s domain and the administrative center for the maintenance of Rolara’s timeline.

Structure

The Nexus presents as a vast, mutable space whose geography reflects the nature of time itself. Structures of polished marble, apparently ageless, stand alongside landscapes that shift and reconfigure with the passage of epochs. Towering hourglasses mark the boundaries between regions, their sands capturing the progression of centuries in visible form. The architecture is not fixed; scholars who have theorized about the realm suggest that its layout may respond to the Chronomaster’s attention or to disturbances in the timeline.

At the center of the Nexus stands the Cosmic Hourglass, Continuum’s primary symbol and divine artifact. It functions as a conduit between Continuum and their mortal champions, permitting controlled observation of both past and future. Other notable artifacts housed in the Nexus include the Temporal Sigil, an ethereal constellation of stars representing pivotal moments in the timeline, and the Ouroboros Loop, a ring capable of trapping its bearer in a time loop until conditions set by the Chronomaster are met.

The Eternal Archives, Continuum’s office and the nucleus of timeline administration, are located within the Nexus. The Velyrnik are the only species known to inhabit the realm.

Localized Phenomena

The Temporal Nexus exhibits several persistent anomalies that distinguish it from other planes. These phenomena are not random; each appears to be an intrinsic feature of a realm where time is spatial rather than sequential.

Chronal Echoes

Past events do not dissipate in the Nexus but persist as Chronal Echoes, spectral manifestations that replay historical moments. These echoes are observable but non-interactive: they cannot be altered and do not respond to the presence of observers. They range in scale from intimate personal moments to large-scale conflicts, and they provide direct visual access to historical events that would otherwise be inaccessible.

Time Vortexes

Scattered throughout the Nexus are Time Vortexes, swirling portals that connect to different points in time. Navigation requires precision; miscalculating a vortex’s destination can displace a traveler by millennia in either direction. The vortexes appear to be natural features of the realm rather than constructed gateways.

Sands of Ages

In certain regions, the Nexus manifests as a vast desert of cosmic sand in which each grain reportedly corresponds to a specific moment in time. The shifting of these sands mirrors changes in the timeline. The Cosmic Hourglass is said to reside at the heart of this desert, its internal sands depicting galaxies to reflect the cosmic scale of the Chronomaster’s operations.

Temporal Maelstrom

The Temporal Maelstrom is a storm-like phenomenon in which the local flow of time becomes chaotic. Within its boundaries, seconds may stretch into hours while centuries collapse into moments. The Maelstrom is considered the most hazardous feature of the Nexus, though its distortions can reportedly be navigated or even exploited by those with sufficient understanding of temporal mechanics.

Hazards

Time behaves unpredictably throughout the Nexus. Unprotected or careless visitors risk displacement into time loops, rapid aging, or temporal disorientation. The realm is not hostile by design, but its fundamental nature poses dangers to beings accustomed to linear time.
