Samael is a human druid of celestial origin who leads the Order of the Branch and Bramble from the Luminous Peaks. Born in the Moonwilde, a celestial realm of arcane wonder, he descended to the material plane in the region of Videha on the continent of Eoperax. He is one of the Starfinders, the group of adventurers associated with the reignition of the Stars of Power.
Personal History
Samael’s arrival in Videha was considered miraculous by those who witnessed it. An unnamed benefactor, interpreting the infant’s pale complexion and emerald eyes as a divine omen, took him in and served as his first mentor, teaching him the ways of Rolara.
His journey eventually brought him to the settlement of Three Falls, where he met Daren Tor, a young scholar and artificer studying under Aberran, the Luminous Sage. Daren Tor’s research into the ancient Stars of Power resonated with Samael’s own celestial origins, and the two formed a close intellectual partnership. Around the same time, Balasar, a dragonborn with connections to Aikibiran royalty, was drawn into their company by a chance storm. The three formed an adventuring party whose complementary skills and perspectives shaped all of their subsequent endeavors.
The eruption of Mount Origin served as a catalyzing event for the trio, a violent reminder of Rolara’s volatility that hardened their commitment to understanding the Stars of Power and the forces that governed the world.
Samael went on to found the Order of the Branch and Bramble, an organization dedicated to maintaining harmony between civilization and the natural world. The Order operates from a pocket dimension and is structured into three branches: the Scribes, the Ambassadors, and the Shroud. Samael continues to lead the Order from the Luminous Peaks, where his philosophy of balance between the tamed and the wild finds its most literal expression in the meeting of mountain wilderness and the vestiges of Storm Giant civilization at Thal’orim.
Personality
Samael’s intellect is characterized by a tension between innate wisdom and a lack of formal education. His insights are frequently profound but are expressed in the vernacular of common speech rather than scholarly terminology. This quality reflects a broader pattern in his character: he possesses an intuitive understanding of natural and cosmic harmonies that exceeds what his training would suggest, as though his celestial origins granted him access to knowledge that resists conventional articulation.
He is most comfortable in the company of animals, whose behavior he regards as more honest and instructive than the constructs of humanoid civilization. He views people as animals who have acquired speech and the pretense of civility, a perspective he considers elevating rather than diminishing. His philosophy holds that understanding animal nature is the key to understanding human nature.
Samael is slow to anger and slower to violence, preferring passive resistance and forgiveness over confrontation. This inclination has at times been a vulnerability: he is forgiving to a fault, willing to overlook transgressions that others would consider unforgivable. He has, however, grown increasingly aware that circumstances sometimes demand harder choices, a development that adds complexity to what was once a more straightforwardly pacifist disposition.
His moral compass is rooted in an intuitive sense of right and wrong rather than in any ethical system derived from study. He is guided by a reverence for the natural world and a conviction that balance, not domination, is the proper relationship between civilization and wildness.
Physical Description
Samael is a human male in his early twenties with a lean, muscular build suggesting both fitness and agility. He stands 5’11" and weighs 165 pounds. His most distinctive features are his sparkling forest-emerald green eyes and sandy blonde, medium-length hair, worn in a perpetually tousled style. His complexion is lightly tanned. His overall bearing carries a faint ethereal quality consistent with his celestial origin.

His preferred method of covert entry (animal form via Wild Shape) is foiled by the Reach’s guards, who include former druids and carry Moonbeam scrolls capable of revealing a creature’s true form. He is also unwelcome due to the Daren Tor incident: Daren, recently returned from Hell, accidentally took school children hostage with explosives at the Reach. Samael intervened and resolved the situation, but a comedy of errors left him persona non grata.
In Banorud of 409 TC, Samael was encountered near a poisoned watering hole en route to the Reach. He had been in the area for approximately one week, during which time he briefly traveled to Al Zaluma for dinner, demonstrating his capacity for rapid long-distance travel (consistent with the Order of the Branch and Bramble's portal network or his own translocation abilities). He recognized Hazelnut by reputation and gave her a clasp indicating membership in the Branch and Bramble, telling her it would let helpers know who she is. He asked the party to either find a unicorn or convince the Reach to relocate their mining operations away from Aetherite veins recently discovered under the Weald, which he believes are poisoning the spring. He then transformed into a bird and departed. Relationships
